How to Reuse Your LinkedIn Cover Profile Video

LinkedIn is the best place for consultants, entrepreneurs, and female executive leaders to grow their personal brands and be known as experts so they can increase their visibility and establish their thought leadership. Over the past two years, video has been the fastest content vehicle to do this on LinkedIn.

What happens when the platform takes one of the better video features from its users? Well, of course, you make lemons out of lemonade.

How to Reuse Your LinkedIn Cover Profile Video

About a year ago LinkedIn offered users the opportunity to introduce themselves to their network via a 30-second video. Users could record this video from their phones and upload into their profile photo area.

This Summer, LinkedIn decided to do away with the LinkedIn Cover Profile.  According to LinkedIn and “user feedback”, the videos supposedly weren’t adding to your professional story.

Of course, I do NOT agree with this decision ( I explain why in this video and I’ll explain in an upcoming podcast episode) because we know that on social platforms video, especially on LinkedIn, has a higher conversion rate.

This has stumped some users with what to do with their existing cover video. Should they remove it or leave it on their profiles? There are a few things you can do to reuse the cover profile video.

What to do now

The first few thing to do is:

  1. Don’t panic

If you recorded and uploaded your video before June 26th 2023, then you don’t have to do anything. It will remain there until you remove it.

  1. Don’t delete your cover profile video

Keep your profile video where it’s at. If you remove it from your profile you won’t be able to upload another video.

  1. Create a 30-second Start Here Video

A 30-Second Start Here video is designed to introduce your visitors to you and give them an intro do what they can expect when they visit your LinkedIn profile. It can be the same thing you had/have in your cover video.  Or you can create something completely different.

Things to Include in your 30-Second Video

Things that need to be included in your video are:

  • Name ( to help with pronunciation
  • Elevator pitch (what you do, who you help, how you help them, and the results they receive)
  • What they can expect from your posts
  • Call to Action (DM, Download Freebie, How to Contact you)

Don’t forget to leave links and a blurb in your caption.

I highly recommend creating this for C-Suite and Female Executives.

Utilize the PIN it to your Featured Section, LABEL the post as START HERE, and Make sure it’s the first post in that section (always).

Does this breakdown of a 30-second video help you for creating your own?
